Sometimes when you plan trips too far in advance, travel gets a bit inconvenient.  After booking the tour, Marjorie got a new job and moved to a remote island.  In order to get to the airport on time, we had to catch a ferry a few days early, then stay with family in Seattle.

But we made it to the airport just fine.  Notice our single, small suitcase.  Rick Steves highly recommends packing light, and we didn't regret following his advice one bit!

We flew American Airlines through New York's JFK airport.  Our layover was long and kind of boring.

Our indirect flight is another result of early planning.  When we booked our flights, Alaska Mileage Plan members (like Marjorie) got full mileage credit on American Airlines.  By the time we traveled, the rules had changed and we only got half credit!  Marjorie had booked the flights to maximize mileage benefit, which was not the most convenient schedule option.  Oh well, we still survived our flight!

Day 0...Let's Go!
