The weather improved slightly after our visit to the Crannog Centre. We spent the rest of our morning doing a little hiking in a place called the Hermitage. It’s like a really old theme park; come to the woods and try to find the Hermit!

The Hermitage ended up looking a lot like Washington. It was probably because of all the Douglas Firs. Did you know the Douglas Fir is named after a Scottish botanist? (Don’t worry, I didn’t know either before our tour!). Yes, a Scottish botanist visited Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia, and brought back a whole lot of Douglas Fir (previously called Oregon Pine) seeds and planted them all over Scotland.

I loved the Hermitage. It was wonderfully damp. Go nature!
